Indian Government to set centres to monitor Internet

A high level meeting was organized at the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), India where plans regarding setting up a National Cyber Coordination Center (NCCC) were discussed. The centre will be responsible for assessing cyber security threat on a real time basis and will also be responsible for monitoring Internet traffic. The meeting was attended by officials frosm IB, RAW, DRDO, Home Ministry and Army. The minutes of the meeting read,  “Establishment of a multi-agency NCCC for real time assessment of cyber security threat in the country and generation of an actionable report or alerts for proactive actions…,” It was also revealed at the meeting that, “The NCCC would scan traffic within the country, flowing at the point of entry and exit, including international gateway.” It was also said that the centre would be in virtual contact with the control room of the Interent service providers. No don’t yet start booking your flights to Mountain Valley,CA Google has just rebranded their highly successful Application vending portal for their mobile operating system Android, Android Market to somewhat more service-agnostic Google Play. No reports on why google has resorted to rebrand the service which it over the years has perfected, and has created a market presence.  The rebranding comes with a new logo, new URL (play.google.co) and an update to the Android vending(market) APK in the coming days. Luckily for us Egor Homakov disclosed the vulnerability and attack to the GitHub. According to him anyone with a basic hacker know-how could have performed this attack on one of the world’s largest repository to gain administrator access to projects such as Ruby on Rails, Linux, and millions of others. GitHub launched in 2008 is based on Linus Torvald’s Git revision, it is a web wrapper to his Git. It has seen a massive growth since its launch outpacing its main competitors like Codeplex, Sourceforge etc and it is free for open source projects.  GitHub has never been hacked-until now. GitHub uses the Ruby on Rails application framework, and Rails has been weak to what’s known as a mass-assignment vulnerability for years. Basically, Homakov exploited this vulnerability to add his public key to the Rails Project on GitHub, which then meant that GitHub identified him as administrator of the project.
