Multi-Core Processor for Android is waste, says Intel !!

Pic : Lava’s XOLO 900 powered by intel’s Medfield SOC Chip giant Intel made a statement lately which could send shock waves in tech world of SOC’s, Smartphones and their Operating System’s. Mike Bell, GM, Intel’s Mobile and Communications Group in justifying for their late entry into smartphone SOC’s with a single-core ‘Medifield’ Atom processor while other players like Nvidia, Samsung, Qualcomm, TI have dual-core and quad-core chips said,  “The way it’s implemented right now, Android does not make as effective use of multiple cores as it could, and I think – frankly -some of this work could be done by the vendors who create the SoCs, but they just haven’t bothered to do it.” Intel’s internal testing states that using the second core on a dual-core chip from any other manufacturer actually results in decreased performance versus using a single core. ExtremeTech, popular tech blog says that Windows 8 on ARM powered devices could be dead on arrival thanks to intel’s x86 SOC. Intel has ventured into the lucrative SOC business with its Midfield SOC powering XOLO 900 manufactured by Indian mobile manufacturer Lava. Intel announces new Operating System,Application framework for portable devices – Tizen

I got a mail this morning from Intel has announcing another operating system / application framework for portable devices like smartphones,tablets, televisions etc called ‘Tizen’. Tizen is build upod ‘Meego’ and ‘Limo’ and would feature application framework consisting  HTML5 and Wholesale Applications Community (WAC) 2.0 standards to help developers reuse and extend their code across multiple Oss, app stores, and devices. Tizen project would be hosted by the linux foundation. Portable operating system market is already crowded with the likes of  ‘Android’ , ‘iOS’, ‘Meego’, ‘Bada’ where Android,Meego being open source and with a good possibility of samsung making bada open source in 2012. Will Tizen add to the customer’s confusion on deciding upon devices or will it lead the portable operating system race, we will have to wait till the operating system wars gets bigger and meaner.
