Breaking: Existence of Higgs boson like particle found, announced by CERN

Candidate Higgs decay to four electrons recorded by ATLAS in 2012. Pic courtesy : CERN Today CERN (European Organisation for Nuclear Research ) announced a major discovery that they are conclusive about existence of a Higgs bosson like particle. Some dubbed this discovery like, ‘what theory of evolution was like to the bioligists, discovery of existence of Higgs boson would be for Physicists’. Higgs boson is an elementary particle in the Standard Model of particle physics belonging to a class of particles called bosons, named after the eminent british physicist Peter Ware Higgs who along with many other scientists brought the Higgs mechanism which predicts the existence of bosson particle and Indian physicist Satyendra Nath Bose known for his work on Bose-Einstein statistics. Though Standard Model successfully describes all of the elementary particles we know to exist and how they interact with one another, it does not answer ‘Why do most of these elementary particles have masses?’ The ATLAS and CMS experiments aim to find the answer for the above question, the key to which is...

Seven Supreme Court justices unanimously dismissed the move as being “without merit”. On May 30 the Supreme Court ruled by a 5-2 majority that Assange’s extradition was lawful and could go ahead. National Telecom Policy (NTP) 2012, was approved by the cabinet in a meeting conducted today. The NTP 2012 aims to provide free roaming to telecom users and allow them to retain the mobile number even outside their circles without having to pay any extra charge.
