Asia cup begins – The battle for the Best Subcontinent team

Asia Cup Begins!

The 11th edition of Asia cup is all set to entertain us with some much anticipated happenings. The tournament will happen in Dhaka, Bangladesh with Pakistan taking on Bangladesh in the first encounter today. It’s going to be the battle for the best team in the sub-continent.

Bangladesh gotta point to prove

Bangladesh has been tagged as an upcoming team for quite a long period. In fact they made their first international appearance in 1997. The fan support that the Bangladesh has got is tremendous. Their hero’s have give them a reason to be proud of every now and then beating Australia, India etc.. but one must say they haven’t lived up to their promise.
The likes of Shakib, Tamim and Rahim should click if Bangladesh will have to stand a chance. The interesting addition will be Masrafe Mortaza who returns to the international arena after a while.
Will this be the tournament that will transform Bangladesh into a more formidable team. Could well be!
India desperate for some victory

World cup champions?? Naah they don’t look like a team which has won the world cup when you look at their recent performance.

A white wash in England followed by the whitest wash in Australia along with not qualifying for the finals, boy they have lots to play for.

India has come to Bangladesh with 7 of their players different from what they had in the world cup for several reasons. Despite having Gambhir Kohli and Captain Cool in great form India couldn’t make things happen for a known reason : Pace and bounce.
Bangladesh wickets should suit our champions and surely the likes of Sachin Gambhir Kohli and MS would like to make the most out of it. Rohit and Raina will be closely watched as its been quite sme time both these talented batsmen delivered the goods.
With Harbahjan left out for too long Ashwin will have to proove his worth after a patchy CB series.
Pakistan’s International Stature

What can you call “Unpredictable”, “Classy”, “Roller coster” every given name would be right. Pakistan after their considerable dearth matches has started again with the performance they are known for whitewashing England with sheer class then falling apart.
The major reason for their success can be easily said Bowling. Pakistan has always been the home of some breathtaking bowlers like Imran, Wasim, Waqar, Mushtaq, saqlain etc.. The latest sensation being the doosra and theesra’s of Saeed Ajmal. Supporting him are Gul, Hafeez, Cheema and the wily Afridi.
Surely Pakistan are firm contenders for the trophy.
Srilanka the team on a roll

The Srilankan’s should start the tournament as favourites with their impressive showing under their best captain.

Knocking out India out of the CB Series surely they have raised their expectations. In addition to that the fact Srilanka has made it to all the finals will surely increase the odd’s to their favour.

With all their premier batsmen in good touch along with the new find Chandimal Srilankan batting looks too strong. With Malinga and Kulasekara bowling looks OK.
Srilanka has everything in their favour and surely stands a very good chance to be the best sub-continent team.
Little Master’s Big feat
Everyone is tired of waiting to see our champion batsmen achieve his 100th international hundred its been quite a long time since he scored his last century. Sachin surely doesn’t want to carry it any further.
Cmo’n Sachin lets do it.
This is what we are waiting to see.

Preferably against Pakistan please.
Stats:
  • Only two bowlers have taken hatrick in Asia cup – Kapil Dev and Fervez Maharoof
