Rahul Dravid to retire

Rahul Dravid – A true cricketer

Rahul Dravid is likely to announce his retirement on Friday, has called a press conference in Bangalore that will also be attended by N Srinivasan.

Few cricketers are known for their records, few cricketers are known for their nature and very few cricketers are known to earn respect from all the players even from the arch rivals but very few have it all, Dravid is one such.

In what is a shocking announcement made by ‘The Wall’ everyone seems to be puzzled with the question why now?

With England scheduled to tour us in the later part of the year, in which can be called the most important tour in Indian cricket one expects our best warrior to fight for one last time and leave the arena gracefully.

The recent form though in Australia was a bit of concern as he got bowled up again and again by the Aussie pacers inswingers. Is that the main reason for Dravid to call it quits or if there is some other reason one has to wait till tomorrow.

One can argue its time for youngsters to step in, valid argument but respect and celebrate what this unsung hero has done for our nation.

Few Stats:

A true potrait of the man himself.

– Dravid holds the most number of catches for a non keeper

– Dravid has the most number of century patnerships’ in the history of the game

– Dravid was the only non Australian to give a speech in Bradman oration

– Dravid is the only player to score century against all test playing nations away from home

– Dravid has faced the maximum number of test delivers in the history of the game

– Second cricketer to reach 13000 runs in tests.

Bottomline : You might not be available in cricket field but you will always live in our hearts.
