59th National Award Winners

The winners of 59th National Awards for Film was announced on 7th March 2012 in New Delhi.The Best actor award is bagged by Girish Kulkani for the Marathi flick Deool while the award for best female lead went to Vidya Balan. The Best feature film of the year is shared by ‘Devur’ (Marathi) & ‘Byari’ (Kannada). The Tamil Mafia flick Aranya Kandam won two awards for Best Editing and Best Debut film by a Director.Synonymous to the previous year,the best supporting actor went to Tamil , Appu Kutty for Azhagar Samiyin Kuthirai.

Best Feature film –  Devur (Marathi) & Byari (Kannada)

Best Director –  Gurvinder Singh for Anhey Ghore Da Daan (Punjabi)

Best Actor – Girish Kulkarni for Deool (Marathi)

Best Actress –  Vidya Balan for The Dirty Picture

Best Supporting Actor –  Appu Kutty for Azhagar Samiyin Kuthirai (Tamil)

Best Supporting Actor – Leishangthem Tonthoingambi Devi for Phijigee Mani(Manipuri)

Best Editing –  Praveen KL  for Aranya Kandam

Best Debut Film by a director – Thiyagarajan Kumararaja for  Aranya Kaandam

Best Choreography –  Bosco-Caeser for Senorita from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Best Screenplay (Original) – Vikal Behl/Nitish Tiwari (Chillar Party)

Best Screenplay (Adapted) –  Avinash Deshpande for Shala

Best Lyrics –  Amitabh Bhattacharya for I Am

Best Sound Design – Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Best Female Playback Singer –  Rupa Ganguly

Best Male Playback Singer –  Anand Bhate for Bal Gandharva(Marathi)

Best Child Artiste – Partho Gupte (Stanley Ka Dabba)

Best Special Effects –  RA.One

Best Make Up –  Vijram Gaekwad for The Dirty Picture and Bal Gandharva

Best Costume Designer –  Niharika Khan for The Dirty Picture and Neeta Lulla for Bal Gandharva

Best Children’s Film –  Chillar Party

Special jury award – Anjan Dutta

Special Mention –  Director Shari (Adi Madhyantam-Malayalam ) and Mallika for Byari .

Best Hindi Film –  I Am

Best Bengali Film –  Ranjana Ami Aar Ashbona

Best Malayalam Film –  Indian Rupee

Best Tamil Film –  Vaagai Sooda Vaa

Best Punjabi Film –  Anne Gode Da Daan

Best Marathi Film –  Shaala

Best Kannada Film –  Koorma Avatar

Best Book related to Cinema – Anirudha Bhattacharjee and Balaji Vittal for “RD Burman The Man, The Music”
