Sachin prays for Australian Mercy!

The final league match of this commonwealth bank series between Australia and Srilanka has become the highly anticipated contest of this series.

Australia has the luxury of choosing the world cup finalists to play against with both the teams pushing hard for the final berth. With a historic win against Srilanka on Tuesday India has hold on to the final lifeline they have got strangely which their captain was unaware of! A ton in the finals would earn Sachin’s final Australian tour a significant place in history, one can be pretty sure that’s what most people in this world will be praying for.

Srilanka
With the financial crisis in SLC, a new captain and a  new coach even the worst better will not have their money bet on the island Nation yet they played with the brand of cricket they are renowned for – fearless.

With Sanga and Dilshan striking some form, Mahela and his boys would surely want to make the most of the opportunity they have got. Boy they have plenty for!

Given that Srilanka has beaten the Aussies twice before this clash would lift the spirits of the camp after a demoralizing loss they suffered in the hands of the neighboring nation. The infusion of youngsters will surely help their cause. Chandimal has already shown enough glimpse to be star for the future.

Slinga Malinga has point or two to prove after being the bowler to concede the highest economy rate ever in ODI history. Apart from Lasith Srilanka don’t have the luxury of bowlers like Lee or Hilfenhaus to use the bounce and pace which the MCG offers which is the main drawback one can think of.

One can say Mahela and his boys have their work cut out!

Australia

Australia unlike their opponents can afford to lose this match as they have booked their berth in the finals. But Australians are known for their aggressive and competitive spirit so one can be rest assured Srilanka will  be made to sweat hard to earn their berth.

With Clarke’s fitness still gloomy Watson would like to make the most of the limited opportunity he gets to captain the team. On the other hand if Clarke’s fit it makes it even tougher for the Lankan boys with the kind of form he’s in.

Australia’s batting look stronger with Watson and Warner at the top, senior Hussey and Forrest in the middle with Dan Christian at the late overs. Warner is due for an innings big time, if he gets the start then it’s all over for Srilanka.

The major advantage for the Aussies will be the pitch itself, the match is played at MCG where Srilanka have not played before in this series, with the bounce and carry it going to be one tough day for them.

To add to the misery of the Lankans James Pattinson could well be the X-Factor.

Will the Lankans prove that they are better one more time  against the Aussies or Will the Aussies have their revenge on the Lankans – Let’s wait and watch!

Bottom-line: Srilanka will start as underdogs purely because of the pitch.

Lee-Dilshan

Dilshan smashed Lee all over the park in the last encounter. One can seek for Lee’s vengeance or will Dilshan prove too good for Lee once again.

Whoever wins viewers will have a treat on their hands!

Few Stats:
  • Srilanka has managed only 5 wins out of the 15 matches they have played in this ground so far while Australians have won 65 out of 108.
  • Ben Hilfenhaus has taken 9 wickets in 3 matches he has played so far.
  • David Hussey has scored 338 @ 105.62 with an average of 84.5 this series.
  • Xavier Doherty (3.94) has the least economy rate for a minimum of 10 over this series.
  • Clint McKay has took 10 wickets @ 17.30 and is at top with Lasith Malinga.
Remember, Its a matter of making it to the finals for the master J
